What is Tenga?

I don’t need to give background on Tenga. You know what it is. You’ve been curious about them from their notoriety, and now you’re here. That was also me until I made it to a recent convention and had a chance to get hands-on with a lot of their products and also ask a few questions from the marketing rep there. But just in case someone stumbled onto this and hasn’t heard of Tenga, they are the largest male sex toy company in Japan. They have the same (if not better) name recognition than Fleshlight in the US. I ended up purchasing the Flip 360 (one of their favorite new products) in aurora green. That’s what this review is primarily going to cover, but I want to help answer some questions about Tenga products that I’ve seen online and also had myself for a long time.

‍ ‍

Are Tenga toys reusable?

It depends on the product. The classic red model that you probably think of when you hear Tenga (you know, because people say it out loud all the time, right?) is single-use. All the ones that look kind of similar but with a twist are also single use.

The best way to tell is to go online and read the product description. It should always spell out in the description whether that particular model is reusable or not.

Furthermore, if you go to their actual website – tenga.co  or usstore.tenga.co – they do have products categorized by single-use and reusable.

‍ ‍

Which Tenga toy is right for me?

I refer you to my standard rules of toy-buying. Is it in budget? Do you want to f*** it? There are so many different models. Tenga has been at this for a very long time. I really appreciate that they view these as actual toys. They’re meant to have fun with. They’ve developed so many different novelty stimulations, it’ll make your head spin . . . yes, literally.

Take a look at their catalog and see what jumps out at you.

‍ ‍

Do I need Tenga lube?

No. Just use your preferred water-based lube, and you’ll be good. You can get their lube if you want, it’s pretty good. I prefer mine a bit more gel-like, and the sample that came in my box was just a teeny bit thinner than KY Jelly.

‍ ‍

Are Tenga toys hard to clean?

Nope! Not at all. I know some of them look complicated. That’s the great part. They’ve put so much thought into how their toys work, cleaning and drying are embedded into the design. Every reusable toy comes with a dry stand that’s uniquely engineered for that model. That’s some awesome effort.

‍ ‍

Can Tenga toys vibrate?

For the classic single-use models, they have attachments that can do things like vibrate or increase suction. It kind of clips on from the side. These attachments aren’t that expensive compared to other vibration toys out there. You do need to pay for the toy separately, though. Good thing there is a monthly subscription service. I think the subscription box + attachments are a good financial bundle, if that’s the way you go about your premium private time.

If you really want the to cream your crop, the Flip Zero does have built-in vibration. It also has an attachment that you can get which will spin the whole thing while it vibrates. I imagine this feels pretty goddamn great, if my last experience with a pulsing and spinning toy was any indication.

Flip 360 Review

Alright, on to the actual review. Of all the toys on the shelf, why did I choose the Flip 360? Honestly, I was between this one and the Puffy. The Puffy was surprisingly incredibly satisfying to hold and squeeze. I’m not sure what made me choose the Flip 360 at the moment, but I’m still very happy with my decision.

The Flip 360 is one of the most classy engineered toy I’ve seen. The exterior is a hard plastic shell with some accents of the interior elastomer extending to the outside. The elastomer allows the hard white part of the shell to flex in wards. I can hold it in my hand and squeeze those parts to blow air out of the top and create a suction zone inside the toy. I appreciate the blend of practical engineering and design aesthetics.

The Flip 360 opens on a hinge towards the hole. It was a little awkward learning how it opens the first time, but I got used to it quickly. Is it still considered a “clamshell” design if it twists? Anyway, this hinge is fairly strong. I don’t feel like it’s going to snap in regular use at all. Just don’t hold one half and wave it around or anything. Not that you would, I’m just saying.

Opening up the toy is a huge benefit. I can apply lube directly to the whole length of the toy. It’s such a small quality-of-life thing that I didn’t know I wanted. Like a second monitor. I don’t know if I can go back. Plus, getting to see and touch the different zones without ripping my fingers in and pulling the hole apart is really nice too.

There is a tactile click securing the two halves in place when I’m ready to use it. There are two versions of the Flip 360: Aurora Green and Midnight Purple. This is where they differ slightly. I cannot speak on the feeling of Midnight Purple, but the Aurora Green experience feels great.

The entrance is nice and welcoming as I push in. The circular area at the entrance has unique style of glans stimulation that feels great for teasing my tip before pushing it all the way in and feeling the massage all the way down my full length.

The ribbed tunnel wraps all the way around. This is where the flexible grips come into play. This is the zone where I feel it the most when I apply the pressure. That being said, the plastic plates do a great job of spreading the force over an area as opposed to other onaholes where squeezing is a very localized — and less pleasant — experience. I can really feel it with long smooth motions sending me into ecstasy as I adjust the pressure accordingly. I would say, however, that due to the spiral design of these exterior grips, left-handed users might not enjoy this to the same extent.

The deepest zone feels so great when pushing in all the way. Because of the way the two halves meet, the two halves feel slightly different with one way facing up (or forward or whatever). Both are good, and it adds variation in the experience of finishing deep inside this toy. ‍

Overall, Tenga’s elastomer material feels very high quality. The ridges are precise with sharp corners and no dangling or fluffy edges. It’s soft and squishy, but the ridges in the middle are spaced just right so that an increase in  . . . *ahem* exuberance . . . also increases the level of stimulation.

Cleaning is super easy. Technically, you can just open it up and rinse it with cold water. I still use soft soap, but I just like being careful. The dry stand for the Flip 360 is also the “cap.” Keep the toy open and sit it on there to let it dry. When it’s done drying, you can take the cap and toss the accumulated water at the bottom. It has worked very well for me. Super easy, barely an inconvenience.

When the toy is closed on the stand, it could be mistaken for some kind of desk thing or home scent atomizer or something. It blends in well with generic target décor, is what I mean. It can hide in plain sight.

Would I recommend the Flip 360? If it’s in your budget, absolutely. It absolutely delivers on the promised experience of an exciting and hassle-free way to really level-up your alone time.

I do wish for a way to lock the cap stand to the main body. Without that feature, I would recommend something like the Puffy if you want a travel-friendly Tenga toy.

For home use, I think this is well worth the money for a Tenga toy that you’ll use over and over again. After sixteen uses, it pays for itself! And if I know you perverts, that’ll happen in like a week.
